Is voice quality comparable between today's network and 21CN?
By employing state-of-the art technology, which is helping to define appropriate industry standards and through rigorous assessment of voice quality, steps are being taken to ensure that voice quality on 21CN is optimised - just as it is on the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN) today. The bottom line is that no-one should notice any difference. BT and five service providers conducted tests using the Swansea CP testing facility and live 21CN network. These were successful and we have subsequently agreed with industry that future testing will be BT only, as all agreed 21CN and 20CN is demonstrably representative of UK industry. The Industry has agreed the future testing plan with the testing focus moving on to international and Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) calls. Testing will continue in line with progress in terms of equipment upgrades and network loading.
